Why Give?

Why Give to the Church?

On a practical level, we give because we want to be part of fulfilling God’s mission right here, right now. And he’s doing that through his church – that’s you and me. Our financial gifts fuel the ministries of the church – the programs, resources, and staff that help us help people find and follow Christ.

We give because we’re thankful that God gave his only Son for each one of us, so that we can be saved from eternal death and a life of insignificance.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10)

We give because Jesus is the most generous person that ever lived, and we want to be like Him so people will see Jesus in us.

Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children… (Ephesians 5:1)

In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)

We give so our hearts will be drawn closer to the heart of Jesus and away from materialism and self-centeredness that distract so many American Christians today.

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21)

We give because we want our actions as Christ followers to speak louder than our words, and we want to be part of a church family that is all in for the cause of Christ.

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. (James 1:22)

We give because it pleases God. In fact, the Bible tells us that God loves a cheerful giver. How cool is that!

Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Corinthians 9:7)
