Don Closson – Elder
What I Do:
After 26 years with a Christian apologetics and biblical worldview ministry in Plano called Probe Ministries International, the Lord guided my wife Deanne and me to serve as staff members with the Centers of Church Based Training in June of 2013. I am now CCBT’s Director of Administration and a Research Associate while Deanne is the Office Manager. A portion of my time is invested in Christ Fellowship’s “NeXt Step” equipping ministries for adults. You may have taken a course here at the church called “The Christian Life” or the study on apologetics called “Defending Your Faith.” These resources are one aspect of CCBT’s call from 2 Timothy 2:2 to “bring all to maturity…the pathway to leadership.” CCBT has partnered with 28 denominations in 44 countries to build up the global church. Deanne and I consider it a privilege to come alongside these churches (including Christ Fellowship) to carry out the biblical mandate of the Great Commission.
We have been married since 1975 and have two grown sons, Aaron and Andrew. We live in Allen and have an orange tabby cat named Aslan.
What I Love About Christ Fellowship:
I love that Christ Fellowship is serious about both knowing and living biblical truth. I love that it places more emphasis on the functions of a New Testament church rather than on the forms by which to accomplish them. I love working with the staff and volunteers who sacrificially serve. Finally, I am humbled and blessed to serve on the Elder Board and with our Life Group family.
How I Ended Up at Christ Fellowship:
Bruce was in my small group at Fellowship Bible Church North when he made the decision to start Christ Fellowship. He invited Deanne and me to join him in the adventure of planting the church – and we accepted.
Before Christ Fellowship:
I was a small group leader at Fellowship Bible Church North. The Lord enabled me to get a Master of Biblical Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1999.
How I Met Jesus:
My college roommate shared Christ with me during my sophomore year. Three months later, after reading Francis Schaeffer’s trilogy of books, I prayed to trust in Christ. When I told my roommate of my decision, he took me around to meet all the campus ministry participants who had been praying for me! It was at one of those Bible studies that Deanne and I first experienced a friendship that grew into love and marriage.
Favorite Bible Verse:
Weightlifting, reading, dancing with my wife, chocolate.
Random Fun Fact:
I once competed in powerlifting in a prison (I was a guest).
