Steve Chappell – Senior Associate Pastor – Operations
What I Do:
Oversee church finances and business operations and participate on the Executive leadership team.
What I Love About Christ Fellowship:
There is much I love about Christ Fellowship. I love the mission God has given us: people helping people find and follow Christ. I love that our church leaders are genuine: sinners, saved by grace, doing their best to seek God’s will in leading His church. And I love the “fellowship of the saints” experienced in our church family.
How I Ended Up at Christ Fellowship:
My family was part of Christ Fellowship from the beginning, nine months before we officially launched in March 1997. Over time I became more involved as a lay leader, to the point of believing God might be calling me to vocational ministry. In late 1999, Bruce confirmed my calling by asking me to join the staff as Small Groups pastor, which I did in March of 2000. Over the years I gravitated to more operational roles at the church, until taking my current role in July 2005.
Before Christ Fellowship:
Prior to joining the Christ Fellowship staff, I spent 18 years in the telecommunications industry in various engineering, marketing, and operational roles. During the first three years of my involvement with Christ Fellowship, I served in a variety of ways: Life Group leader, usher team leader, co-director of the first capital campaign, Life Group leader coach, and participant in a number of community service projects we had going back then. One of my passions is personal financial stewardship – I believe growing into a generous giver to God’s work is both an indicator of spiritual maturity and a platform for further spiritual growth.
How I Met Jesus:
I grew up going to church fairly consistently as an elementary age child, attending a Baptist church when at home and an Assembly of God church when visiting my relatives in East Texas, which was quite often. I guess you could say I had the gospel presented to me in varied ways. I prayed to receive Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior and was baptized when I was 11 years old. Like many of my friends, I wandered far from God during my late High School, College, and young adult years, living a fairly selfish life, although I never doubted I was saved and why. In my early 30’s God got hold of me, rekindled my love for Him in a major way, and life has never been the same since – thank you Jesus.
Favorite Bible Verse:
OK, I have four: Matt. 6:21, Rom. 8:28, Rom: 12:1-2, and 2 Cor. 9:7.
Read, play card and board games every now and then, play tennis, and sailing (not really a hobby, just something I love to do)
